A couple of ft sure, 8ft during a 6 week period.Snowfall amounts for the "Storm of the Century," which walloped the East Coast between March 12-15, 1993. Yet people still used it over the T when needed. The MBTA is far worse off then it was 8 years ago, Uber had just truly started taking off and had surge pricing for the first time. I am just one person, I know thousands of others who have their own traumas from that winter.ĭon't EVER say we deserve something like that winter again. Although for the most part as I was in the central artery the red line was pretty good. This doesn't include the daily bus delays. There was an ice tunnel outside of south station because snow piles were so high that's how people would walk. Then another 45 to get a train that I could take. I myself watched a B train disable 100ft from me on Comm Ave (there were no coverings back then) It took another 45 minutes for another train to come through and push it down the tracks. Landlords didn't care about shoveling their sidewalks for the most part because it was like a $50 fine by the city. There was nowhere to put the snow, in Southie 2-way streets became 1-way for months. As a Boston Resident, that shit got dark. I don't know what your cozy situation was in 2015. So I get to enjoy half of our back deck and stare at it year round. I say all that to say this: fearing snowblower theft my partner insisted the snowblower live on the deck tucked in nice and cozy with its cover thing and those stretchy cords. Family members were hosting other family members so no room at the Inn. My parents home was winterized for the first time. It was awful we were practically feral by day 3 and no hotels in the area either as they were all booked. Most of our neighbors have generators but as renters we did not. We live just at the end of a grid that fails often but this time was especially bad. The worst part for me is during that hell winter we lost power for several days - no heat, no internet, nothing. Wasn’t it nice to finally have one for a few minutes? Like oh no more breaking my back. If no recent results for the same kind of inquiry exist, feel free to start a discussion! Still curious?
